Chapter VI: Measures in Support of Innovation

What this part of the EU AI Act covers

Chapter VI contains the Act's supports for innovation. It establishes AI regulatory sandboxes, sets the conditions for testing high-risk systems in real-world conditions outside a sandbox, governs informed consent for participants, and provides measures aimed at SMEs and start-ups.

It binds Member States and national authorities to establish the mechanisms, and gives providers a route to use them. Unlike the rest of the Act these are permissions rather than duties: a sandbox or a real-world testing authorisation is something you may apply for, not something you must obtain.
