Chapter IV: Transparency Obligations
Article 50 of Regulation (EU) 2024/1689.
What this part of the EU AI Act covers
Chapter IV covers transparency. Article 50 requires that people are told when they are interacting with an AI system, that synthetic audio, image, video and text is marked in a machine-readable format, and that deep fakes and AI-generated text published on matters of public interest are disclosed as such. These duties attach to systems in any risk tier.
It binds providers and deployers differently: providers must build the disclosure and marking capability into the system, deployers must actually disclose when they use it. Because the duties follow the interaction rather than the risk tier, a system with no other obligation under the Act can still owe them.
